Parents Night Out a Great Success!

On January 6, 2011, Galia and Friends hosted its first-ever Parents’ Night Out.  The event was organized in collaboration with the Children Brain Tumor Foundation and was open to all parents of teenagers in- or off-treatment.

The evening provided a chance for parents to leave their daily struggles at home and for a few hours connect with other parents, regain a sense of normalcy, and have some fun over great food and conversation.  Seventeen parents met at The Cupping Room Café in SoHo, and throughout the dinner, lively conversation flowed from medical care to teenage dating.  For some parents, it was their first time out in months.  One parent wrote:

“My daughter was diagnosed with Pontine Glioma.  Since we have been given this devastating news, we have not left our daughter’s side.  Our life is wrapped around our daughter’s diagnosis and all the burdens that come with it.  Thank you so much for giving my wife and me a moment to breathe.  This meant so much to us.” -Thank you, LM, 2/28/11

After the event, Galia and Friends was flooded with requests for more such gatherings.  The next Parents’ Night Out is already in the works.  If you know parents who should join us for a Parents’ Night Out, please Galia at galia@galiaandfriends.org.
